Psychology behind colours

Have you ever thought if colour can change your mood ? Did you ever notice colour of your room affect on your mood, emotions ?

Yes , Colours could manipulate you.

Though  some of these manipulations are depend upon the personal experiences, on your culture, there are some universal interpretations for colors.

How could some thing simple,  like colour alternate the behavior or emotions? Simply it's because of the brain functionality.
To understand how brains are affected by colours its important to understand how we see colours.

Colours have different wave lengths and energy levels.Suppose light is emitted on a particular object , some of the light is absorbed by the particular object and reflects the rest. That light wave is captured by the eye and enters into cornea. Then light is traveled through pupil to lens. Then to retina. In retina there are two different cell types called photoreceptor cells namely,
1. Rods
2. Cones

Rods are activated in dim light while cones are activated in bright light. These cones contain colour detecting molecules. From these cells it convert light into signals.

Then these signals are sent to visual cortex of the brain via optic nerve.Meanwhile signals through photoreceptors are sent to hypothalamus of the brain through retino hypothalamic tract.

Parts of the eye

Hypothalamus of the brain is a crucial brain part.It regulates many functions including secretion of hormones , regulating sleep, hunger, sexual behaviors, activities of Autonomic nervous system, thirst as such many functions are regulated under hypothalamus.

Hypothalamus

Thereby with different wave lengths it impact on human moods, decisions , emotions , temperament in different ways.As stated above though there are universal conclusions about how colours impact ,it depends upon the factors such as personal experiences , culture , climate.

However it's important to have a general idea about colors and their impacts before using colours.
